Regional Simulation Teaching Fellow Induction Programme

University Hospitals Tees recently hosted the Regional Simulation Teaching Fellow Induction Programme at the Hartlepool Health & Social Care Academy, bringing together simulation educators from across the region for a dynamic day of learning, collaboration, and professional development.

The programme featured an impressive line-up of specialist speakers who delivered insightful sessions on human factors, civility, equality, diversity and inclusion, patient safety, and the role of simulation in healthcare education. Fellows also explored innovative approaches to simulation through a session on gamification, Quality Improvement (QI) incorporating simulation and benefited from practical advice and key learning points shared by outgoing Simulation Teaching Fellows.

During the afternoon, delegates participated in a series of interactive workshops covering simulation scenario design, simulation technology, and effective debriefing techniques. These hands-on sessions provided valuable opportunities to develop skills and share best practice.

A key focus of the event was fostering connections between Simulation Teaching Fellows across the region, creating opportunities to network, collaborate, and develop future QI initiatives that will enhance patient care and educational practice.

The programme achieved outstanding evaluation results, with participants highly commending both the valuable networking opportunities, plenary sessions and engaging workshops. Reflecting the programme’s success, approximately 75% of fellows are planning future QI projects, while 100% would recommend the programme to future Teaching Fellows, highlighting its significant impact and lasting value.

Building on the momentum of the induction programme, a Simulation Quality Improvement Showcase will be held on 6 July 2027 at STRIVE, The James Cook University Hospital. This exciting event will provide Teaching Fellows with the opportunity to present and celebrate their quality improvement projects, share innovation, and highlight the impact of simulation-based education across the region.
