Patient Safety Resident Doctor Forum
The first Faculty of Patient Safety Resident Doctor Forum took place today on World Patient Safety Day with over 25 resident doctors in attendance.
Today's session focused on an overview of the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework and thematic review from colleagues at Gateshead NHS Foundation Trust.
The forum is a peer trainee initiative led by our Faculty of Patient Safety, with today's session organised and chaired by Dr. James Coates.
The North East and North Cumbria Faculty of Patient Safety Resident Doctor Forum is a platform dedicated to training the patient safety leaders of the future.
The Forum is designed for all resident doctors and dental trainees across the North East and North Cumbria. The forum serves as a vital hub to cultivate a deeper understanding of patient safety and accelerate the dissemination of key clinical learning.
The topics and speakers prompted a wide range of questions from attendees, highlighting the strong interest among the future medical workforce present.
The evaluation rated the event as very useful across all domains within the evaluation. There was a large amount of interest in the progression of the Faculty of Patient Safety Fellows' quality improvement project and expressions of interest for future events.
The forums are expected to run quarterly throughout 2026/2027. The focus will be on patient safety topics and themes that are relevant to workplaces around the region and across programs.
