Celebrating North East Success at ASPiH and Why 2026 Should Be Our Biggest Year Yet!

Over several previous years, the members of the North East Simulation Network have made an significant impression at the Association for Simulation Practice in Healthcare (ASPiH) conferences. Our members have consistently delivered high‑quality scholarship, innovative practice, and region‑wide collaboration — and the results speak for themselves. As abstract submissions are now open for ASPiH 2026 in Harrogate, now is the perfect moment to build on that momentum.

At ASPiH 2024, North East representation was stronger than ever. Colleagues from across our trusts and universities showcased work spanning faculty development, human factors, digital innovation, and system‑level simulation. The conference report highlighted the region’s “breadth of expertise and collaborative spirit,” with multiple presenters sharing projects that directly improved patient safety, workforce capability, and educational quality.

This visibility matters. It demonstrates that the North East is not only delivering excellent simulation locally — we are shaping national conversations about best practice, equity, and the future of simulation‑based education.

Building on Success: ASPiH 2025 in Bournemouth

The 2025 conference saw another outstanding year for our region, with a diverse group of presenters representing trusts, universities, and training programmes:

  • Tom Hayes (NUTH) – Two posters, showcasing innovation and evaluation work.

  • Radha Brown (South Tees / UHT) – Oral presentation and poster, demonstrating strong academic leadership.

  • Matt (Northumbria) – Oral presentation and poster, contributing high‑impact system‑focused simulation.

  • Amy (Northumbria) – Two posters, highlighting creative and practical simulation solutions.

  • Charna & Helen (Co. Durham & Darlington / UHT) – Co‑presenters, with Helen also winning the “Spin the Wheel” free place for ASPiH 2026.

  • Tom Brisk – Poster presentation, with work completed in his previous organisation but now proudly representing his new employer.

This breadth of contribution — from early‑career educators to experienced faculty — reflects the strength and diversity of simulation practice across the North East.

Why You Should Submit for ASPiH 2026

ASPiH 2026 invites abstracts aligned with its theme, Simulation: The Next Era, focusing on simulation’s impact at individual, team, organisational, and system levels. This aligns perfectly with the work happening across our region, including:

  • Scenario redesign to meet new statutory requirements

  • System‑level simulations identifying latent safety threats

  • Interprofessional and cross‑trust collaboration

  • Low‑cost innovation and resourceful design

  • Research, evaluation, and quality improvement

  • Faculty development and widening participation

If your work has improved learning, safety, equity, or service delivery — it deserves to be shared.

Let’s Make 2026 Our Strongest Year Yet

Our region has the talent, creativity, and collaborative culture to lead the national conversation on simulation. The last two years have proven that when the North East shows up, we make an impact.

Now it’s your turn.

Submit your abstract, share your work, and help shape the next era of simulation.
