The Northeast Simulation community was delighted to welcome the national Becoming Simulation Team, Prof Bryn Baxendale, Chris Gay, and Caroline Cocking to Northumbria University on Tuesday 28th of January. This one-day event was designed to support local providers to deliver the workshop component of the Becoming Simulation Faculty programme. We had an excellent turnout of enthusiastic simulation trainers from across the region who were keen to learn more about this new programme.
The Becoming Simulation Faculty programme was created by the NHS England Technology Enhanced Learning Team with the following aims:
To establish and implement an expert-led, sustainable programme to support the professional development of simulation educators, practitioners, technicians and managers from educational and care provider organisation
To ensure equitable access across professional, geographical and institutional boundaries
To enhance the quality of design, delivery and evaluation of simulation and immersive learning methodologies applied within the health & care sector across NHSE
The Core Course comprises 6 e-learning topics and a face-to-face workshop, which have been authored by a multiprofessional group of experts. The programme page is here: https://www.e-lfh.org.uk/programmes/becoming-simulation-faculty/
At the orientation day the Bryn, Chris, and Caroline described in detail the content of the workshop, how to deliver it, and where it might fit into current faculty training and future professional development frameworks. This generated lots of questions, discussion, and ideas.

The Faculty of Patient Safety would like to extend a huge thank you to Alan Platt at Northumbria University for hosting this day on behalf of the North East Simulation Network.
Our regional simulation group will work with the national team to set a date and deliver a Becoming Simulation Faculty Workshop in the region later this year – watch this space!
