Becoming Simulation Faculty: First advanced topic launched
The first advanced topic in the Becoming Simulation Faculty programme has been launched. Sessions will supplement learning from the core course will and include:
What does a sim tech (simulation technician) do?
Why is the work of sim techs so important?
Developing the sim tech role.
Author Sam McCormack, principal technical specialist, Brunel University of London said: “I was delighted to be invited to be a contributing author. This structured e-learning pathway equips healthcare simulation technicians with essential skills necessary for enhancing simulation training and improving patient safety, making it a critical area for professional growth in the healthcare sector."
Author Wojciech Wardenga, specialist simulation technician, University of Southampton, said: “When the faculty understand the capabilities of technicians, they can delegate more effectively and make better use of available sim tech expertise during simulation planning and delivery.”
Further topics are currently under development and are expected to be launched by the end of August.

Becoming Simulation Faculty programme awarded CPD accreditation
The Becoming Simulation Faculty programme has been awarded Continuing Professional Development accreditation by the CPD Certification Service.
Over 1000 people have completed the Core Course elearning, with nearly half going on to attend the Core Course workshop.
This national faculty programme supports the development of a multi-professional faculty of educators, practitioners, technicians and managers from higher education institutions and NHS organisations who want to design and deliver simulation and immersive learning.
After completing the Core Course (the elearning and the face to face workshop), colleagues can now evidence their professional development. to help focus further attainment of skills and practise, as well as within personal portfolios for appraisal purposes.
All those who have completed the Core Course will receive new certificates specifying a recommended CPD achievement that can be included in CPD portfolios.
Thank you and farewell to Prof. Bryn Baxendale
The Simulation and Immersive Technologies team would like to thank Bryn Baxendale and to wish him all the best for the future as he leaves his role as a TEL Clinical Advisor for Simulation.
Bryn has worked with the TEL team since its inception and helped steer the future direction of the Simulation and Immersive Technologies programme, setting up the Becoming Simulation Faculty programme, providing both subject matter expertise and leadership, and drawing on his network of simulation specialists from around the country to author and review the learning resources.
Bryn has led and supported 16 regional workshops and trained almost 100 faculty members to deliver Becoming Simulation Faculty workshop facilitators for the future. He also chaired the quarterly Regional Simulation Network Leads meeting and will be missed by regional colleagues in the wider simulation community.
